1.1 Our Personal Encounters with the Heart of Jesus

Our Starting Point for this whole ad limina is the Heart of Jesus

The sentiments of his heart are not only our spiritual aspiration, but also a guide for the way we do what we do.

At the beginning of this program we need to recognise that leadership at any level within our congregation must be firmly founded in the ground of our MSC identity and deeply informed by our spirituality and the charism of our founder Fr. Jules Chevalier MSC.

Leadership in this context is much more than carrying out the tasks of administration and management. This would be to pass over the essential elements that go towards living and communicating our corporate mission in this present age of change and disruption.

Our MSC leadership includes true spiritual discernment, compassion and care for all members even those who live dysfunctional lives or those with challenging attitudes and behaviours, and creating environments of safety and trust that promote the good in members and communities rather than being places of judgement, cynicism, or rejection.

Exercise:

  • Take time for silent reflection. Perhaps 30 minutes.
  • Call on the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
  • Remember your encounters with the person of Jesus in your time of leadership, and in the circumstances leading up to your appointment.
  • Name these experiences and write about them in your journal.

How did you experience his presence?

What did he say to you about being in this role of leadership service?

How do you continue to encounter him and his heart for you ?
