CPCS Workshops on Restorative Dialogue
Trauma Care with Children and Youth
Presented by Dr. Delphine Collin-Vézina
13 June 2025 (Online) 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. (EST/UTC-5)
Cost: $50 CAD
Exposure to traumatic events during childhood and adolescence, particularly when these events are chronic and occur in the context of significant relationships, has been shown to have a significant impact on the development and acquisition of the affective, behavioral, cognitive, and biological self-regulation skills needed for daily living (Smith et al., 20-23). It is increasingly recognized that any intervention with young people must pay special attention to trauma exposure and its effects. This workshop will introduce participants to the principles of trauma-focused interventions, drawing on strategies suggested by the Attachment, Regulation, and Competence model (Blaustein and Kinniburgh, 2019). It will support the development of knowledge, skills, and reflection for participants to be better equipped to provide opportunities for healing and growth for these young people.

Dr. Delphine Collin-Vézina is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada – Academy of Social Sciences, a licensed clinical psychologist, a Full Professor of Social Work and the Director of the Centre for Research on Children and Families at McGill University. She is also an Associate Member in the Department of Pediatrics where she holds the Nicolas Steinmetz and Gilles Julien Chair in Community Social Pediatrics. She spearheaded the Canadian Consortium on Child & Youth Trauma that regroups 125 researchers, practitioners, policy-makers, governmental representatives and individuals with lived experience to better understand the impact of adverse and traumatic life events in the lives of young people, as well as their experiences with services.
