Section 9 – Self-Understanding – 3 Dimensions

We have looked briefly at the tension between our Conscious Needs and Unconscious Needs on one hand, and our Human and Theo-Centric Self-Transcending Values on the other.  We saw how our perception of reality can be influenced by our needs especially when they have been over-met, under-met, or distorted by hurts or expectations. What does this mean for our Christian living and what implications does the interaction of our needs and values have on our Christian decision-making especially in responding to a perceived religious or ministerial vocation.

Looking for signs in a time of confusing stories

In these greatly challenging days, I have the sense that we are building a new kind of collective wisdom, one that for the moment remains mysterious. New communities are springing up around invitations to think together about issues or be in practice, or listen to new ways of looking at the world. Although we are in the time of “social distancing”, the space between us is somehow growing smaller.

For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation, and Mission Vademecum for the Synod on Synodality

The Church of God is convoked in Synod. The path entitled “For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation, and Mission” was solemnly opened on the 9th – 10th of October 2021 in Rome and then in each particular Church.
A basic question prompts and guides us: How does this “journeying together,” which takes place today on different levels (from the local level to the universal one), allow the Church to proclaim the Gospel in accordance with the mission entrusted to Her?

Ongoing Formation – Continuing Renewal

RENEWAL and continuing formation are more than synonymous terms. They seem to mean one and the same thing. Leading from Within a SPIRITUALITY of the HEART

In his article, Leading from Within, Parker Palmer reflects on five ways spiritual leaders tend to cast ‘shadow’ rather than ‘light’ in their ministry of leadership.  In this presentation, Gerardine Doherty, fdnsc offers her interpretations on some of the ways these realities are casting ‘shadows’ in today’s church.

Chevalier and Synodality

Greetings to our MSC confrères around the world and special thoughts and blessings on this day of the Anniversary of the death of our beloved founder, Fr. Chevalier. The following text is worthy of our ongoing reflection. It is in part the homily given by the Superior General, Fr. Abzalón, during our Feast Day community celebration of Mass with members of the Italian Province, including Fr. Mario Scalici, MSC, the Italian Provincial and the four formandi of the province. We trust you all had joyful and inspiring celebrations and that you can use the following words to help inspire you in your mission.

Section 7 – Self-Understanding – Needs

This is the seventh section in this series of reflections on self-understanding for the sake of mission. We now proceed to explore the dynamics of needs that are consistent and those that are inconsistent, and why. This will shed light on why our behaviour some times puzzles us, when we know what we should do but we fail to do so.
