Heart of Life celebrates its 40th birthday in 2023, having witnessed over 1100 women and men – lay and ordained – graduate from our spiritual formation programs. Our graduates, in their journey of contemplative discernment following the way of the heart, have been listening, discerning, and taking up formation roles in communities across the globe since 1983.

On 12-14 May 2022, Jesuit and Ignatian Spirituality Australia is offering a transformative conference to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the conversion of St Ignatius Loyola.
This three-day conference will be an Ignatian murmuration, a series of spiritual conversations using the Spiritual Field Hospital exercises of Michael Hansen SJ during Covid, to make connections with Ignatius in his interior journey of receiving new life in Christ. Heart of Life Centre for Spiritual & Pastoral Formation is a work of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, was founded in 1983. It offers a ministry in spirituality, the formation of spiritual directors and pastoral supervisors, spiritual direction, pastoral supervision, and reflection events. Because of its international reputation, participants from Australia and overseas attend Heart of Life’s formation programs in spiritual direction, supervision and spiritual leadership. The Centre’s Siloam and Spiritual Leaders programs are accredited by Yarra Theological Union (YTU) and the University of Divinity.
This is the sixth section in this series of reflections on self-understanding for the sake of mission. In this section we discuss in more detail the differing dimensions of human needs, in order to gain some understanding of how we, as MSC, are influenced by our own needs.
